My reviews of SciFi and Fantasy books
This is a collection of reviews of fantasy and science fiction books that I have read over many years. Some of these books go back to when I was a teenager discovering new worlds and experiences through books in my neighbours house that I raided like it was a library. Hopefully some of these earlier books that I read still hold up to the test of time, I know that I enjoyed them and it set me on a path of wanting to read more in a similar vein.
I was lucky that many of the first books I read were timeless Classics from authors such as Isaac Asimov, John Wyndham, and HG Wells. Over the years that followed I continued to look for exciting and new writers who could take me on journeys to distant worlds and share in the exciting adventures across time and space.
There was a time when I felt I had read everything that was available on the shelves of the book stores I used to frequent and I became slightly jaded that there was nothing of a similar quality to the books I had previously read. It was only with the discovery of the books of Iain M Banks that I realized there were authors out there who had moved the genre forward with a strength of imagination and writing that reawakened my passion for this style of literature.
Since then I have enjoyed many new authors who have expanded on the possibilities of using fantastical futuristic environments to convey good story-telling. As with any book the narrative, characters and standard of writing are what matters regardless of where story is set.
